One of the world's smallest and least developed countries, Bhutan's economy is based primarily upon agriculture, hydropower, and tourism.

            

            

Bhutan has strong trade and monetary links with India, and has, in the past, benefited heavily from India¡¦s financial assistance.

            

        

Hydroelectric power is the main revenue source for the country, with the majority of it being exported to India. Though somewhat restricted, tourism is becoming increasingly popular and therefore a significant source of income. 

The current King, Jigme Singye Wangchuck, has signaled his commitments to building an economy that is appropriate for Bhutan's unique culture, based on Buddhist spiritual values, and has served as a unifying vision for the economy.
